A new Home: Byron Bay

Moving somewhere new is never easy, nor is it a one step process. Moving literally to the opposite side of the planet, to a town you have never been to is even harder. There are ups and downs. Some days when you find a bush turkey sleeping in your bed and some days when you surf amazingly. It's the truth and its life.  I had no Idea where Byron bay was, I googled it of course, but never bothered to see what it was like ahead of time. Instead, I figured the old fashion way of moving to a place with a minimal plan and no prior knowledge seemed like a fun option.

The first few weeks where spent on a friends couch, Searching for surfboards and jobs, both at this point equally important. The ocean on our doorstep just a short jaunt down the sandy pathway cutting through Arakwal park. Surfing on borrowed boards and camping in the hinterlands, nights filled with thunderstorms and days sweltering in the sun. We'd stayed on a ridge filled with eucalyptus trees, off-roading in a VW Golf, against better judgment, we made it. The bush buzzed and hummed with sounds of insects. Sunrise surf checks and coffee filled the early hours, basking in the gentle warmth of the sun.

The living comes easy in the endless summer. Celebrating my first birthday in the Summer, perpetually having indoor January parties in the darkness of Canadian winters, this was paradise.
